A lot. I take pictures of everything.<br />
<br />
The bad: This means I need to charge up my camera battery quite often and today was a busy day, and I kind of forgot.<br />
<br />
The ugly: There are times (like right now) that I really want to post some pictures on my blog, but can't because my camera battery needs to be charged. Ugh. I should really have another battery charged and ready to go when I need it.Joanne JMhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02833298512137122074noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1886576591910023380.post-1827191934161370142013-08-09T10:48:00.002-07:002013-08-09T10:48:13.283-07:00Rainy Day Fun<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Sometimes, on rainy days we make cookies, play games, do some puzzles or even watch a movie. But today, it was raining like crazy. I simply had to take the kids out in it. We still worked on our puzzle and played some games. So by the time we went out it was only raining a little bit. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Maybe next time we'll just wear swim suits. Even with our umbrellas, we still got pretty wet. </div>

One of the "good" things about living on our street, is that the sidewalk has lots of dips. Hence all the huge puddles. </div>

Gabs went through some pretty deep puddles. She came home with about a cup of muddy water in each boot. No, the boots are not leaky. She was splashing so hard, the water came in from the top.</div>

My little butterball loves his see-through umbrella. It kept him dry from the rain. It didn't work so well against all the puddle splashing, though. </div>

Good thing I had some towels right on the porch when we got home. The little stinkers had to peel off all their clothes they were so wet. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I don't know what possessed me to do this, but I just felt like taking some pictures of my eyes. Here's one. No make up. No plucking or shaping (ever). Little sleep. And my awesome freckles all over. Teehee. No really, I love my freckles. </div>

I thought I should take some pictures of Gabby's and Ben's eyes, too. </div>

Freckles on Ben's face, too. And look at those fuzzy little eyebrows. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Hmmm, I think I feel a project coming on. Maybe I should take eye pictures of the whole family. That might be fun. Maybe something like an "Eye Family Tree". Any ideas?</div>

This is my recipe. I used the recipe for Peanut Butter-Oatmeal Rounds from the Better Homes and Gardens Cookbook, but changed it here and there. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Here's what you need: </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
3/4 cup butter (cold)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
1/2 cup peanut butter</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
1 cup brown sugar</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
1 tsp. baking powder</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
1/2 tsp. baking soda</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
2 eggs</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
1 Tbsp vanilla</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
1 1/4 cups flour</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
1/4 cup flax seed meal</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
2 cups rolled oats</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
1 cup chocolate chips</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhjVDbB8B9Rg0ufmuxoIyQhNICTV1jU0AgPRqbk4sBYUdNM0GDYZvSAiBVTp-FqjXRiQw02NHUf869XK40sR3aBdIxWP_hY_2QJtVFBi-I9oQvbYoqWaYIHcEadfKArphCpowgqO7MdgQxN/s1600/IMG_2887.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhjVDbB8B9Rg0ufmuxoIyQhNICTV1jU0AgPRqbk4sBYUdNM0GDYZvSAiBVTp-FqjXRiQw02NHUf869XK40sR3aBdIxWP_hY_2QJtVFBi-I9oQvbYoqWaYIHcEadfKArphCpowgqO7MdgQxN/s640/IMG_2887.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Beat butter and peanut butter on med. speed for 30 sec. or till combined</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhd75pyUAjan8Dl-vNz-Q2dbKX6qS3l9vwI_3FqCJmQjb93Jvm_fkqLoKWzd5y4ZyvzfacaP1mqqSYWlC64yKRMfjSW7D9-YE08jmZ8tnOTrEU3Vo10_3RLguwkq_2jf4Y2hAFWQvQGkJse/s1600/IMG_2888.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhd75pyUAjan8Dl-vNz-Q2dbKX6qS3l9vwI_3FqCJmQjb93Jvm_fkqLoKWzd5y4ZyvzfacaP1mqqSYWlC64yKRMfjSW7D9-YE08jmZ8tnOTrEU3Vo10_3RLguwkq_2jf4Y2hAFWQvQGkJse/s640/IMG_2888.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
It should look like this. See the small clumps of butter? That's a good thing. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiIg6NCiecqzHgPvSP_vHzbWJavOO8n1jVfcpI8SF8lVcuHGCrxe3ncy3XnOHIcEwm62YwrRuWupMHnmYMBmVotqpWTz5UwapvTMwau4KCW8jlMynt-c0fCi9YLYXhprPtBUNS1Ab_uhMZs/s1600/IMG_2889.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiIg6NCiecqzHgPvSP_vHzbWJavOO8n1jVfcpI8SF8lVcuHGCrxe3ncy3XnOHIcEwm62YwrRuWupMHnmYMBmVotqpWTz5UwapvTMwau4KCW8jlMynt-c0fCi9YLYXhprPtBUNS1Ab_uhMZs/s640/IMG_2889.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Add sugar, baking powder and soda. Beat till just combined. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiHS8Fu1UWX8Bt8xdV2Efj9Im7Ky2GU9ISt6k4TJutjPJ4mYRra9YMciclcl784EmHZv-t3_5Y6oNjgRsP_Di_KAalb6J3iC8avuV6P3nhZ6zGub_KeobNgyXP9ipQGuP7l1TwQUOfb4QfO/s1600/IMG_2890.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiHS8Fu1UWX8Bt8xdV2Efj9Im7Ky2GU9ISt6k4TJutjPJ4mYRra9YMciclcl784EmHZv-t3_5Y6oNjgRsP_Di_KAalb6J3iC8avuV6P3nhZ6zGub_KeobNgyXP9ipQGuP7l1TwQUOfb4QfO/s640/IMG_2890.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Now add the eggs and vanilla. Beat for 30 seconds. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEikh0l2Oe1c2hLbjFwguf82jOeqhtHq0MyrYgYQGi4j1QCuRXs6t-93B7ZSD0GMHceqxaZY2O7v16IP4fJAcKymWEyIkXAFTTCcfbt0ACAlcHR9pu_-eH_4cnxRpXW5DnauTDPxG0NYw1iR/s1600/IMG_2891.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEikh0l2Oe1c2hLbjFwguf82jOeqhtHq0MyrYgYQGi4j1QCuRXs6t-93B7ZSD0GMHceqxaZY2O7v16IP4fJAcKymWEyIkXAFTTCcfbt0ACAlcHR9pu_-eH_4cnxRpXW5DnauTDPxG0NYw1iR/s640/IMG_2891.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Now add the flour and flax seed. I have a pretty tough mixer so I just dumped both right in. But you can gradually add the flour and flax seed if you're not so sure about yours. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg2Ti8g3KL5qSufzYSAft3AdPfeQALw0GRGvU_IdFV4wCeMau39ufv2CRM7mYk-DXsaJiNKOvoDUijqCWMljukbexcVm5q-UWE2SwxUEq4P_o2Du7Xpw-2zOFvHIHFNV_j6yF9gIlwoR876/s1600/IMG_2892.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg2Ti8g3KL5qSufzYSAft3AdPfeQALw0GRGvU_IdFV4wCeMau39ufv2CRM7mYk-DXsaJiNKOvoDUijqCWMljukbexcVm5q-UWE2SwxUEq4P_o2Du7Xpw-2zOFvHIHFNV_j6yF9gIlwoR876/s640/IMG_2892.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Using a spoon, stir in the oats. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjPLKL2ytEKv-l5cb8CSflGDTuj1dRwwPaZ1w3qBeJ0jbJDnJZnjaRqy76VW3DPXmY9R8jnHgHyhDxA3GjYzzC0F55AkYYmpdGh8scrPtOT4OrfYCW8m-r5Qvu3-RV2iiQlOIjOhpPAFRXS/s1600/IMG_2893.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjPLKL2ytEKv-l5cb8CSflGDTuj1dRwwPaZ1w3qBeJ0jbJDnJZnjaRqy76VW3DPXmY9R8jnHgHyhDxA3GjYzzC0F55AkYYmpdGh8scrPtOT4OrfYCW8m-r5Qvu3-RV2iiQlOIjOhpPAFRXS/s640/IMG_2893.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Add some chocolate chips. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjyYuzN3bcxWSJmKngrjPA93SKXPC_uqR_2v7XIrWaJtj-xMMsz6C0SxwVN2HALLftH_TNc653P_2ixKtYSCqjV3P5vScMrI38AG5gpClq9yfrrCWFEZ7MXCJZE7UtD_WAC5ykTvV6TyQbn/s1600/IMG_2894.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjyYuzN3bcxWSJmKngrjPA93SKXPC_uqR_2v7XIrWaJtj-xMMsz6C0SxwVN2HALLftH_TNc653P_2ixKtYSCqjV3P5vScMrI38AG5gpClq9yfrrCWFEZ7MXCJZE7UtD_WAC5ykTvV6TyQbn/s640/IMG_2894.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Use a medium scoop or table spoon to scoop mounds onto a baking sheet. Bake at 375 for 12-15min. </div>

You can tell I used a scoop because mine look like round little mounds. Enjoy!</div>

Some times, we get really goofy and throw all rules out the window. Like a few days ago, when we decided to play Risk first thing in the morning. Pajamas and all. I think Gabs was still finishing up her breakfast while setting up her pieces.<br />
I've never actually played Risk, so it was a first for the kids and I. They loved fighting against us. But in the end, we all decided to share one of the continents. It seemed fair that way to the kids.<br />

<div style="text-align: center;">
It was great to have a day where all of us were home and we didn't have to be anywhere. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiEvcbdJf9_04WxjWk3JZdhgxbVnM2vJxMuE9aVjOB0PrI2Y48rDMuzXQ4BBAzCcmI3y6gyT9bnDrI_8n9_NbLPZJCXHPtehTu7qjJw7MM18JColw5VMM8vmm8m49DwdPNtrW3o1k_sk8tH/s1600/IMG_2876.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiEvcbdJf9_04WxjWk3JZdhgxbVnM2vJxMuE9aVjOB0PrI2Y48rDMuzXQ4BBAzCcmI3y6gyT9bnDrI_8n9_NbLPZJCXHPtehTu7qjJw7MM18JColw5VMM8vmm8m49DwdPNtrW3o1k_sk8tH/s640/IMG_2876.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I love this picture! Gabs is playing with a super old calculator and Ben is playing with Grandma's super old type writer. They spent an hour writing messages to each other. I'm so glad we don't do "screen time". I think they appreciate things that work slower, because of that. </div>

A while ago, I thought I'd try dyeing yarn . I checked out a few blogs and pins on Pinterest. <a href="http://apolishgranddaughter.wordpress.com/">A Polish Granddaughter </a> is a good one. She shows how to dye yarn with marigold petals. Also, I like <a href="http://repeatcrafterme.com/">Repeat Crafter Me</a>, where she shows how to dye yarn with Kool Aid. I tried using petals and herbs and that didn't work so well. I had some nice 100%wool yarn in a light cream colour and I wanted to dye it green. I tried all sorts of stuff. Basil, spinach, and a bunch of other green stuff growing in my garden. Nothing worked. Then I tried to dye it blue or purple with blue berries. That didn't work either. My yarn turned a dirty sort of gray. Finally, I gave up on the natural stuff and tried the tough chemicals...Kool Aid, of course!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Eww. So gross. I don't know how people drink that stuff. I might have had a glass or two as a child and I hated it. But I love it now!! As a dye. : ) It worked great. Even on my already grayish yarn, it made a nice purple. And it's super cheap at the corner store close to my house. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjhUq0-65FlQeXr5zmh4jC8WVoUC3RFg_I-6fuWW35DCO6TEZJK0gkWzcxlrUq1MO8YZRA1Hbem0ZRJKrl90qul9RVgWXUyJq1zU6pCu7Y5jt440_aqaJsp356t8D9jMOStmULrUZzMllR2/s1600/IMG_2678.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjhUq0-65FlQeXr5zmh4jC8WVoUC3RFg_I-6fuWW35DCO6TEZJK0gkWzcxlrUq1MO8YZRA1Hbem0ZRJKrl90qul9RVgWXUyJq1zU6pCu7Y5jt440_aqaJsp356t8D9jMOStmULrUZzMllR2/s640/IMG_2678.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Here is my grayish yarn being dyed purple. I used 3-4 small packets in Grape flavour. It's really neat how after 30 minutes the water looks just like regular water, but all the colour had soaked into the yarn. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgdoh7wCx8ANXqPbf9PwpxQ72U9MC0nCtMdY_B5BncbqLckqnkR7f5EGiNpVstHf38ygmPfcGZMs_32cx72NXbYiP0hPcezEuwDWLSH_jZQsCkNskuJOwF6krdxasyzuTtdkE5Dn9SAvhrT/s1600/IMG_2681.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgdoh7wCx8ANXqPbf9PwpxQ72U9MC0nCtMdY_B5BncbqLckqnkR7f5EGiNpVstHf38ygmPfcGZMs_32cx72NXbYiP0hPcezEuwDWLSH_jZQsCkNskuJOwF6krdxasyzuTtdkE5Dn9SAvhrT/s640/IMG_2681.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This is the purple, still wet and cooling off.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjaaBiaqku8iRM3Om__wjM63j8e2BDtC7WKgHoFNqAZEVjJS3TUjqXFCGee_BMFADnDSC1mN21wxsCIAm40m1va8o7aQDUD9QopZW-I4ScX8hH8AFlbneA7AjvY13vARJTPGswoUPdNIBzj/s1600/IMG_2877.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjaaBiaqku8iRM3Om__wjM63j8e2BDtC7WKgHoFNqAZEVjJS3TUjqXFCGee_BMFADnDSC1mN21wxsCIAm40m1va8o7aQDUD9QopZW-I4ScX8hH8AFlbneA7AjvY13vARJTPGswoUPdNIBzj/s640/IMG_2877.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
This is what it looks like dry. It's actually a lot more purple in real life. For some reason my camera made it look a bit navy. I'm not sure what to make with it. I just thought I'd try a swatch to see how it looks. I really like the different shades of purple here and there. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixacM-XYPghmpSR04Z-bK1KmUqR7RtAFq-LphjhpYJdjiNzYPlwOAxE2AoHUQp3lrzZWD4FwAyn2VAth8pvougUcjU2hORYJxhY4wCoNeoeczvelyha2IwEi5PLl3zOZxdAaVm8aINrBKv/s1600/IMG_2679.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixacM-XYPghmpSR04Z-bK1KmUqR7RtAFq-LphjhpYJdjiNzYPlwOAxE2AoHUQp3lrzZWD4FwAyn2VAth8pvougUcjU2hORYJxhY4wCoNeoeczvelyha2IwEi5PLl3zOZxdAaVm8aINrBKv/s640/IMG_2679.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Here is a brand new bunch of 100% wool yarn in a light cream shade. I think I used 4 packets of Cherry and 1 Orange. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjAgiPFPpTGnmCAJn_dirE6GScgF4zQwGTdDzwsa3eAB44JBSL4jqtstUZya6Dw7lNurODhvWk4bMlStU5B3TlPbT86mROIXIIcrlANxUYpSIIhJ8ZMq2pTUP9J-728Z39QSSMIAhihjPRp/s1600/IMG_2682.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjAgiPFPpTGnmCAJn_dirE6GScgF4zQwGTdDzwsa3eAB44JBSL4jqtstUZya6Dw7lNurODhvWk4bMlStU5B3TlPbT86mROIXIIcrlANxUYpSIIhJ8ZMq2pTUP9J-728Z39QSSMIAhihjPRp/s640/IMG_2682.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This is what it looks like out of the water, but still wet. Kind of looks like ground beef. Eww. I got a little impatient and added some cool water to help it cool faster. Bad idea. The quick change of temperature to my hot yarn, made it felt itself a bit. That's ok. I'll still use it, but I've learned my lesson.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg2oA5-Sj23hegBTHWFfMaF6UhElYCIYy-jmMnJRn7g0yW0jkRx9oxqBYnunFWiOlq9Vp6mUKkkpyOxIX4yS4S2o76WZZTKvnZcc6U6PZc5livxO_i85wnBn3c1G0X1eQ5cwJjdc5URwilm/s1600/IMG_2879.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg2oA5-Sj23hegBTHWFfMaF6UhElYCIYy-jmMnJRn7g0yW0jkRx9oxqBYnunFWiOlq9Vp6mUKkkpyOxIX4yS4S2o76WZZTKvnZcc6U6PZc5livxO_i85wnBn3c1G0X1eQ5cwJjdc5URwilm/s640/IMG_2879.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
And here is what it looks like dry. I think next time I'll put in more packets. I think my camera made it look a little lighter than it really is. I like this colour but I was hoping for something darker.<br />
<br />
I had lots of fun doing this and can't wait to do it again. Hmmm what colour should I try?</div>

Waking up to the sound of children singing.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Nowhere that we have to be.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Banana, chocolate chip pancakes and some lovely tea.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Cuddles on the couch.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Wearing pajamas till 9:00.</div>

Life is good when you have lots of time. </div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
We had a bit of a slow morning today. I even got to crochet some dishcloths during breakfast. They go along well with cookies, various butters and crafts that we make as Christmas presents. Yes, I know Christmas is 5 months away, but if I get started now, I'll have more time for other holiday activities with the kids. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
A very funny game of chess. I'm just a beginner. Ben knows a bit more about chess, be he gets so distracted! We'll just keep on practicing. It takes him a long time to make a move, so I usually work on some knitting or crochet. (check out the lovely red play silk)</div>

Some times I get good ideas. Other times...catastrophic.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Well, ok, so the pierogi weren't catastrophic but, damn, it was hot in my kitchen!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This is all it takes to make fruit pierogi. I made some strawberry ones and then some blueberry ones. You can use frozen fruit or fresh fruit. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
2 Cups flour</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
1 Cup boiling water</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
1 1/2 Tb spoons of oil</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
For filling:</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
1 Cup blueberries</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
or 1 Cup strawberries </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEieGfo-AD4q6FZl-7G33x5I76CZkdAf3BZAiMckcTRzzVufqnuHm9bCJlN2I98Spk4AZYUnavr6OaRE8ww8dbFF-3tBPs5wM5XBpGPvnHJh6LdKKDT3ctGwedewJ8z6AfjSQlZzpLGtSekB/s1600/IMG_2861.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEieGfo-AD4q6FZl-7G33x5I76CZkdAf3BZAiMckcTRzzVufqnuHm9bCJlN2I98Spk4AZYUnavr6OaRE8ww8dbFF-3tBPs5wM5XBpGPvnHJh6LdKKDT3ctGwedewJ8z6AfjSQlZzpLGtSekB/s640/IMG_2861.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEggr13e3damy0kQj_O5r-d1VJO_AEwReVAC-z5Ma79jmTNkYGiD0UXKd21X7LZbsMfBzO556JvW_ndAUfox-Hva1wW98ewhZDTZwgiqEO8Hzdlj_mRt3ZZsSgSOuCZlMoMQ1b1ZECwIU89R/s1600/IMG_2862.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEggr13e3damy0kQj_O5r-d1VJO_AEwReVAC-z5Ma79jmTNkYGiD0UXKd21X7LZbsMfBzO556JvW_ndAUfox-Hva1wW98ewhZDTZwgiqEO8Hzdlj_mRt3ZZsSgSOuCZlMoMQ1b1ZECwIU89R/s640/IMG_2862.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Make a mound with your flour and using a knife, make a small dip in the middle. Pour a little bit of the water and oil in the well and slowly blend it into the flour. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgv2bJeJIg4JKuX6miAoemeaBI-CxEAcdcQTWPW_Ma2ZBFLM6Y125uCbfR-yfoeFdce3VGh3d7wfCF3akhWhApYNd6CXZtnjExa0sNajrXqgEZkLbkUy2ernLYrboNbTQ1qUoxfwGvAvpqq/s1600/IMG_2864.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgv2bJeJIg4JKuX6miAoemeaBI-CxEAcdcQTWPW_Ma2ZBFLM6Y125uCbfR-yfoeFdce3VGh3d7wfCF3akhWhApYNd6CXZtnjExa0sNajrXqgEZkLbkUy2ernLYrboNbTQ1qUoxfwGvAvpqq/s640/IMG_2864.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Continue, adding water and oil and cutting them into the flour. Your dough should look a bit crumbly. </div>

Once you've added all the flour and oil, you should be able to form a lump of dough. Slowly kneed it to blend in any left over bits of flour. Sprinkle a bit of flour on your counter and roll out the dough. Mine was about 1/4 inch thick. </div>

I like mine with butter and maybe some sprinkled sugar on top. You need to put something on them so they don't stick together. Sour cream is good, too. And that's it!</div>

A while ago my husband got a cookbook as a gift from a friend. I'm not sure if he's ever even opened it, but I am absolutely in love with it. "The Homemade Pantry" by Alana Chernila is full of do it yourself recipes. Stuff like homemade pop-tarts, butter, jams and other canning, pasta and graham crackers. It's not just a cookbook. Every few pages, there is a story and pictures of Alana's family. It makes it so much more personal. It's kind of like a cooking diary. Alana also has a wonderful blog <a href="http://eatingfromthegroundup.com/">eatingfromthegroundup.com</a>.<br />

Yesterday was quite a chilly day. With our little family loving the cold weather so much more than the hot, we were outside pretty much the whole day. I got to read my new favourite cook book and work on Brian's sock. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I actually got a little cold sitting there, reading, and felt the need for some tea. I love everything about this tea. It's Fair Trade Black Tea, with some local honey from Davis Honey, in a gorgeous little mug from a local potter, the Wizard of Clay.</div>
<br />
<br />
So I made a basic stock from "The Homemade Pantry". It's very much like my basic chicken broth but with a little twist. She added garlic cloves and a tomato. Just adding those 2 extra ingredients made such a difference. I also used bones and skin from grilled chicken thighs that I made the night before. Actually, the chicken got a little smoked, so I think it might have added a nice smokey flavour to the soup. Everybody gobbled it up! It was wonderful. I made some orzo for the kids to put in their bowls with the soup. They also added oyster crackers. My little salt goblins.<br />
<br />
I scooped out all the veggies and bits of meat and am now planning on making my very own version of pierogi. Woohoo! I wonder how that will turn out. I remember making pierogi as a child so I have a pretty good idea of what to do. I'm just not sure about the flour to water ratio for the dough. Time to do some research in my old polish cook book.Joanne JMhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02833298512137122074noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1886576591910023380.post-91723479392442227062013-07-24T17:46:00.001-07:002013-07-24T17:46:39.752-07:00Ouch!So here's my first post under The good...the bad...and the ugly.<br />
<br />
The good...I think I've finally learned how to use my grill properly.<br />
<br />
The bad...it's too bad I forgot that chicken with the skin still on, can make quite a fire in my little grill.<br />
<br />
The ugly...I got freaked out by the giant flames burning my super-pricey-organic-chicken and accidentally bumped my Cutco carving fork off the table and it cut my leg on it's way down.<br />
<br />
It's not that bad, but I did need a couple of band-aids. I actually didn't feel anything. I only noticed I was bleeding when I bent down to pick up the fork. Damn Cutco tools are so sharp you can't feel them cutting into your skin.Joanne JMhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02833298512137122074noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1886576591910023380.post-89117748843998922832013-07-24T06:27:00.000-07:002013-07-24T06:27:46.953-07:00The elf on the shelfDuring the weeks before Christmas we were visited by an elf. Not just any elf, but an "elf on the shelf". <div>
We bought a book at Barnes and Noble about the elf, and somehow that transaction must have notified Santa that we would like an elf as a visitor in our house. Well, he came. He first appeared on a high shelf, probably so Miss Whiskers (the cat) wouldn't try to chase him. But soon, we would find him in all sorts of places. The kids loved waking up early in the morning, to be the first ones to find him. Here are some of the pictures. </div>

Up till now, my kids actually liked THREE veggies: carrots, green beans and corn. We'd eat two of them every day and switch it around a bit the next day and have the third veggie. Woop dee doo!<br />
But now, it seams, corn makes my kids sick (sore tummies and frequent bathroom visits), so we're down to TWO veggies. *sigh* At least they love fruit. All kinds of fruit!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEipCndIqCqNqvnxqeFwI24lPKOvM9Zd96Wn5mPEmJSZFXHvlajFi-Qfr9BJG3fp7GYjKmQdqP4dcr1CEf-d_g8a9jmfmG07_JxLW_ImMIYZ57ohVpuScWxzh6M8cGXYGLSGSF4l7tOZSMJ3/s1600/IMG_2833.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEipCndIqCqNqvnxqeFwI24lPKOvM9Zd96Wn5mPEmJSZFXHvlajFi-Qfr9BJG3fp7GYjKmQdqP4dcr1CEf-d_g8a9jmfmG07_JxLW_ImMIYZ57ohVpuScWxzh6M8cGXYGLSGSF4l7tOZSMJ3/s640/IMG_2833.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
Since we're down to two veggies, I thought I'd mix it up a bit. I added roasted garlic butter to green beans and surprisingly they both loved it. One step back, one step forward, I guess.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

We do have other veggies in the house, that Brian and I eat. Maybe one day the kids will change their minds. We can only hope. But the kids were having a great time playing INSIDE. I didn't want to be a party-pooper, so I gathered up a bunch of crafty supplies and some cozy blankets and we headed outside. And the kids loved it!<br />

Ben was very happy, crafting mini booklets and sticking stuff together. He was so excited to be using "the good stuff"... my pricey punchers and stack of colourful card stock. The best part...the convenience of having the compost close by, so that he could dump his pencil sharpener shavings right in.<br />

Hmmmm, Christmas in July? Gabs has a thing for Christmas wrapping paper and stickers. Which is funny, because we don't use wrapping paper. One way or another, it just makes it's way over to our house. And we have Great Grandma to thank for the Christmas stickers. She saves them all by the bunches, just for Gabs.<br />

Well that worked! One hour of crafting and the kids were ready to move on to something else....like WEEDING! Of all things! I couldn't have been happier. There I was, peacefully crafting, in the shade of our tree on a comfy blanket, while the kids weeded the garden beds for me. Total parenting score. Here I'm working on a mini booklet about our back yard and garden. Pictures to follow soon. </div>

It's been a really hot July so far. And when it's this hot, just about the only thing that will cool you off is a bunch of water. It's been great, just hanging out in the backyard, with the kids running around playing with water. Water balloons, sprinklers, watering cans and squirt toys. My kids are loving all this water play. Lots and lots of socks. It seems I've been able to memorize the pattern so why not just keep going. I don't need to carry a book or a sheet with a pattern with me anymore. Just the yarn and needles. It's a small project so I can carry it around anywhere I go. Doctor's appointments, various sports activities, church, family gatherings, picnics, road trips, etc. </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">There is a really easy pattern for socks in "Charmed Knits" by Allison Hansel. (Barnes and Noble $10.48) That's the one I've been using over and over. </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">I've even been able to adjust the pattern a little to make a smaller version for each of my kids. </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br /></span>
<br />

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"> Here is a pair I made for Gabs about a year ago, but now that she's grown I made her a bigger pair. </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br /></span>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjlaoSzepbefJGm96Ku4fSppKYWNLLWfJvyNSwyvfHVzqnfAXKjZ1scYSrWlneAHKPCZ4_QesM5ttdkTuWtFvI8akcdEdWn8i3G_fRqeaNU-bOQYOi8SSaBhLepe45x7R_TPJAfogZD3uE6/s1600/IMG_2818.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjlaoSzepbefJGm96Ku4fSppKYWNLLWfJvyNSwyvfHVzqnfAXKjZ1scYSrWlneAHKPCZ4_QesM5ttdkTuWtFvI8akcdEdWn8i3G_fRqeaNU-bOQYOi8SSaBhLepe45x7R_TPJAfogZD3uE6/s640/IMG_2818.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"> And here is the new pair. A little bigger so there is room for little feet to grow, but still very colourful and full of stripes. </span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">I think they'll really come in handy on those cold winter days when we're outside for hours building a snow fort. I always get a little nervous about about frozen toes, so now we're all set. : )</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br /></span>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_63Nkr9nQLmp5B5_LmkNMF9uM3E7TziAvm7aerfo1zGdPBbU_IEVdFTmZZupLbNhwf0p7L7QNPm69R60_qUv3BfM7E9HAuacAmziSCbEsGE1CnQ04UX8-uyoDygSfNQYNIkSQMtUQLIq4/s1600/IMG_2817.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_63Nkr9nQLmp5B5_LmkNMF9uM3E7TziAvm7aerfo1zGdPBbU_IEVdFTmZZupLbNhwf0p7L7QNPm69R60_qUv3BfM7E9HAuacAmziSCbEsGE1CnQ04UX8-uyoDygSfNQYNIkSQMtUQLIq4/s640/IMG_2817.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">Here is the pair I made for Ben. It's great how knit socks are a bit stretchy so they'll fit the kids for a while. I used the same ball of yarn for these two socks but they look different. This kid keeps getting taller and taller. And his feet are getting longer and longer. I think the next pair I make for him will have to be a small adult size. </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br /></span>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">Here's a pair I made for myself. So comfy! They're a bit fuzzy in the picture cuz I've been wearing them all winter. </span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">I also started making socks out of left over yarn. They look a little mixed up but still nice. I'll post a pic of those soon. </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br /></span>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">I'm still working on a pair for the hubs. Finally, he let me make him something. I think he's afraid I'll spend months working on something and then he won't like it and hurt my feelings by not wearing it. Silly man. Doesn't he know I'll make him wear it even if he doesn't like it. : ) I guess that's why he went with socks. LOL</span>Joanne JMhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02833298512137122074noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1886576591910023380.post-3876734697476828722013-07-17T17:50:00.002-07:002013-07-20T18:37:53.974-07:00PlaysilksHere's something super fun we've been doing. We've been dyeing our own play silks! I love it! It's so much fun and super easy. You never know how it's going to turn out, too. I ordered a bunch of 100% silk scarves and squares at <a href="http://dharmatrading.com/">dharmatrading.com</a>. Luckily I didn't have to buy and dyes. My good friend, Cindy, had all sorts of colours and all the tools necessary for the dyeing process.<br />
I wasn't sure if the kids would like them and if I was just wasting my money. Turns out they absolutely love their play silks. They use them is so many ways. The other day, Gabs was using one as a baby sling, one as a skirt, one as a cape, one as a blanket and one as a pretend river for her toy animals.<br />
Here are some pics of the kids just playing with their silks, on a not-so-hot day out in the back yard.<br />

</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
A few days ago, we took the kids to see the Lilac Festival Parade. The sun was shining, the sky was blue and a gentle breeze made it quite pleasant to be outside. We found a nice semi-shaded spot off the road, spread a blanket and got settled in to watch the parade. Gabby nearly jumped right out of her pants, when she saw these "Princesses". </div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
I'm not sure who they really were, but they had pretty, fluffy dresses, tiaras and they were happily waving at my bouncing little girl. And they were in a princess carriage, too.</div>

I'm so glad we had a nice sunny day. I don't think I can take another 3 days in a row of rain. So I went to a park and found some interesting stuff. I found out my camera is pretty good. I took this pic way up close and it's quite clear and not fuzzy at all. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
I also found The Poet's Garden. I didn't know we had one of those. It's a Shakespeare garden. How cool is that? There are even a few stone benches, with Shakespeare quotes carved into them.</div>

Another stone bench. This might be a good spot for some wedding photos. Or maybe a family photo...if I could ever get my kids to hold still, that is. </div>

While out and about with the kids, I noticed a bird nest in our front lights. Turns out it's a Robin's nest. So, of course I tried to climb up as high as I could on a tipsy chair on our porch, to get a good picture. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg8wePVkfqyi4Z9tyaUan38BZ5i-k7pzmYRhClD-rYhW-P2bO1z2rIUJbAEdMHrsM_GZRVFKhAGSwpKXt8W5ZFVjoj0jXMLlM-iGqErLQfciaCy0J52nn1Rc5ryAmipsEFjjw6mkU2Xtj5t/s1600/IMG_0667.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg8wePVkfqyi4Z9tyaUan38BZ5i-k7pzmYRhClD-rYhW-P2bO1z2rIUJbAEdMHrsM_GZRVFKhAGSwpKXt8W5ZFVjoj0jXMLlM-iGqErLQfciaCy0J52nn1Rc5ryAmipsEFjjw6mkU2Xtj5t/s400/IMG_0667.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Here's a close up. You can actually see the little blue eggs. I really hope the squirrels don't get it this year. Those furry rats! They figured out a way to reach the nest and knocked the whole thing down. I'm trying to see if I can block the nest off somehow. I think the squirrels reached it from our gutter. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgcMOZoYUman2_2CHsxqn51HYlftE22Mr6YAIyrbGeQaizkANgzhi7RwaEM1-KWRIk3CeAX-K-ieLy3II8PYib9UAgRvqtlfYPFKdv7GRHC6RAuaB_0F0Bn3HZPkYYu3ho85YJ8PXao8RJT/s1600/IMG_0669.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgcMOZoYUman2_2CHsxqn51HYlftE22Mr6YAIyrbGeQaizkANgzhi7RwaEM1-KWRIk3CeAX-K-ieLy3II8PYib9UAgRvqtlfYPFKdv7GRHC6RAuaB_0F0Bn3HZPkYYu3ho85YJ8PXao8RJT/s400/IMG_0669.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
But I don't want to disturb the Mama Robin. I really didn't get too close to the nest while taking these pictures, I just used my zoom. But she was freaking out, chirping and hopping all around the yard till I went back in the house. What a good Mama. Here she is, catching some big juicy worms in our rain soaked yard. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
One of my new projects I'm working on...a giant crochet rug. Yep. I'm crazy. I'm using a 3.5mm hook and regular cotton yarn. I usually use this yarn for dish cloths. I'm about 1/20 done. LOL. This is going to take for EVER. I'll be making it in pieces and then sewing them together by hand. Each piece will be about 1 foot wide and 4 feet long. I think I'll have 5 pieces in the end. So far so good. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjBNltwznEW4DVF0M690MuqpAz-yWiJ0AsxcTvz9RdeO_euJTUBbzpjBJ_cO5OUfAdKu5BHYJa4sQRoknVvV2HgBBaxW2okp2rUfohlSgVZos6wCr2f7yiBOISDcSmHtKHwHHbT8T5iiGCN/s1600/IMG_0698.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjBNltwznEW4DVF0M690MuqpAz-yWiJ0AsxcTvz9RdeO_euJTUBbzpjBJ_cO5OUfAdKu5BHYJa4sQRoknVvV2HgBBaxW2okp2rUfohlSgVZos6wCr2f7yiBOISDcSmHtKHwHHbT8T5iiGCN/s400/IMG_0698.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I bought myself a book. Which is odd. I never buy books if I can just get them at the library for free. See, but this is sort of a journal. And you can't really use those over and over. So I really HAD to buy it. I've been trying to start a journal for a while. But it's just to overwhelming...all those empty pages. So I got this..."This Is Not A Book". And it's so much fun! It's like an activity book for adults. Teehee. I guess it's supposed to help you start off a journal. I've brainstormed quite few good ideas in it so far. : )</div>

A while ago, I snuck up on my little kitty, Miss Whiskers, and tried to take some pics of her sleeping. I woke her up, but she participated very well. Here she is just waking up. </div>

I took the kids on a walk around the neighbourhood today. And here's what we found. A yellow fire hydrant. According to the kiddies, it's "beautiful" and we really "must take a picture of it" and put it in the blog. Well, it's a bit rusty, but still an nice bright yellow colour. </div>

After 2 weeks of coughing and sneezing, we were finally able to go outside for more than 20 minutes. The weather was absolutely perfect. Nice and sunny and not too hot. We were actually outside for 6 hours! I had some little plants to put in the garden beds and the kids wanted to get all their flower bulbs in their little garden. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3PrU02nfGX8SIj42CjdndLmmwFCJVb4jk30mRs0L2z3CeVK-5yajOpHADX0Wq3dmZviYe9hJ15S1NzcM9agc-s0NpauL0wIeOruASlDZPJ23Pur4hQ2z3cJXimVySqZu99ThNCb6mduEv/s1600/IMG_0640.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3PrU02nfGX8SIj42CjdndLmmwFCJVb4jk30mRs0L2z3CeVK-5yajOpHADX0Wq3dmZviYe9hJ15S1NzcM9agc-s0NpauL0wIeOruASlDZPJ23Pur4hQ2z3cJXimVySqZu99ThNCb6mduEv/s400/IMG_0640.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Unfortunately, after 2 weeks of neglect I had quite a bit of weeding to do. At least my green onions and garlic survived the freaky frost we've been having. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Here are my green onions. They appear to be doing just fine. I think I'll use them with dinner tonight. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I yanked out all the weeds and started the salad garden. I really hope we don't get any more snow. </div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
I'm not a fan of Dandy Lions but they ARE flowers (according to Gabs) and flowers can NOT be yanked out of the ground. There you have it, the Flower Princess has spoken. Maybe the squirrels will eat them and then I won't have to worry about it. : )</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I while ago, I knit a lovely pair of socks for my little Gabby. Here they are. All stripes and rainbow colours. And....she doesn't want them. Too SOFT! This kid is driving me bananas. Well that's just fine...we'll save them for our baby cousin, Lily. This suits Gabby very well. She wants to wrap them up today, even though Lily's birthday is months away. Goodness, they don't look that bad. </div>

The other day, I walked downstairs to the wonderful smell of homemade bread. How awesome is that? Once in a while, Brian (the hubby) gets a craving and goes absolutely nuts in the kitchen. I stay clear out of his way because he really is a mad man when he gets going in there. So he was craving bread. But not any bread...herbed-Parmesan-pizza-bread. I think that's what we decided to call them in the end. I suppose we could have called them Bread Pretzels, but they tasted nothing like pretzels. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I'll add the recipe, when Brian makes one. He kind of just tosses things together without paying much attention to measurements, and wonderful things come out of it. I know he put oregano, Parmesan cheese and bits of pepperoni in the dough and it was soooo yummy. </div>

One of the many knitting projects I'm working on is a pair of Leg Warmers for my little Gabs. I love the way the yarn just makes little stripes and patterns all on it's own. No need to switch yarn at any point, just one skein the whole way around.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgoWK5CM3_OgepNFZTdSsfhizJdebjN5Zgou8ZYrsTSHQqpLbOlPsYn5qaDxKuL_W0lVOOM_qPtG2Jdol6CCZe79vySIRcoiEhqEu7peivIxOdO6-9FGcI-Nr-FP2iWbqd1wpmBJ-I491HJ/s1600/IMG_0633.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgoWK5CM3_OgepNFZTdSsfhizJdebjN5Zgou8ZYrsTSHQqpLbOlPsYn5qaDxKuL_W0lVOOM_qPtG2Jdol6CCZe79vySIRcoiEhqEu7peivIxOdO6-9FGcI-Nr-FP2iWbqd1wpmBJ-I491HJ/s400/IMG_0633.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Here I'm using Red Heart yarn with Aloe, so it's super soft and feels very nice in my hands.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjgy3-P6J6T34YaVnCOgmGNCO8fY4e51PIsk3F-T011PYxVYh9IOdZlXhsxfPm5RFbcSBTd1u0NnV4FHiqlPFSFZo5lMZIKXSNHBC80hoPjwqZiG_vctTQPdvay8xLInNQNJmZsEVlBJ_M_/s1600/IMG_0634.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjgy3-P6J6T34YaVnCOgmGNCO8fY4e51PIsk3F-T011PYxVYh9IOdZlXhsxfPm5RFbcSBTd1u0NnV4FHiqlPFSFZo5lMZIKXSNHBC80hoPjwqZiG_vctTQPdvay8xLInNQNJmZsEVlBJ_M_/s400/IMG_0634.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
I like to save money when I can. Which is why I buy most of my yarn with a coupon or on clearance. Sometimes, there is just one skein left of that type of yarn. That's fine with me. And apparently it's fine with my kids, too.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgSmAhz5jURGXsUFDzb9le9QqZGSU7Q0E284qRroe6N5ZJ1e_gDFryD8xFyZXxwY7KXn0_acBqt4M7MyNNM-HFjI1as9wvt0YTcYsvf-enlC1RFnztEG3bStFGUVJiZTCFhxbQikbzrBuEj/s1600/IMG_2821.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgSmAhz5jURGXsUFDzb9le9QqZGSU7Q0E284qRroe6N5ZJ1e_gDFryD8xFyZXxwY7KXn0_acBqt4M7MyNNM-HFjI1as9wvt0YTcYsvf-enlC1RFnztEG3bStFGUVJiZTCFhxbQikbzrBuEj/s400/IMG_2821.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
This is what Gabby's finished set of Leg Warmers looks like. Yes, they are different, but at least they have similar colours. I made them longer than I usually would for a child, but she likes to have them cover her whole legs. In the fall and winter, she wears skirts and dresses and her little legs are nice and warm. And if she gets a little too warm from running around, she can easily slide them down to her ankles.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhpx7xr1MRcidCddkGhaIlPOJiPcLK0dxkJsMzDiPT1woaKPTwJCgoESXfXxPPh0sNETn9wM-Ues_oKplSBTyO3CdIKmYISibY9-emXjPNnbEh9MK1HsnIM4hVZs3ZxUlcyDDddKbHNpP46/s1600/IMG_1821.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhpx7xr1MRcidCddkGhaIlPOJiPcLK0dxkJsMzDiPT1woaKPTwJCgoESXfXxPPh0sNETn9wM-Ues_oKplSBTyO3CdIKmYISibY9-emXjPNnbEh9MK1HsnIM4hVZs3ZxUlcyDDddKbHNpP46/s400/IMG_1821.jpg" width="262" /></a></div>
This is the first Leg Warmer I was working on for Ben. He chose some nice ocean colours.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg505UCAucNmY3hmxfLs32iNdwenzaC0mYzm3UuUWExmUYe1GqAe_zbu4JekPuihs6k0CVYoVL_ZJUTX508Z-TP9vsOpD_rGXmCSrrQ14JqbuK7BULvrfw9OU3GYiB1MnAA9JidImJ0f0qH/s1600/IMG_2825.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg505UCAucNmY3hmxfLs32iNdwenzaC0mYzm3UuUWExmUYe1GqAe_zbu4JekPuihs6k0CVYoVL_ZJUTX508Z-TP9vsOpD_rGXmCSrrQ14JqbuK7BULvrfw9OU3GYiB1MnAA9JidImJ0f0qH/s400/IMG_2825.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
And this is what they look like as a pair. I made them super wide and a bit shorter. Ben wanted to be able to tuck his pants into them in the winter. They worked our really well. The kids would often complain about freezing ankles while in the car. Even if they wear their winter boots, when they sit in their booster seats, the pants ride up and boots slide down. So now they're all set with their super cozy Leg Warmers. : )<br />

</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
So, in the spirit of Spring, I decided to make some Bird Nest Cupcakes. I made dark chocolate cupcakes and frosted them with white frosting. Then, using chocolate frosting, I made the "nests". For the eggs, I used Jelly Beans and Malt Ball-Robbin's Eggs. They turned out really cute. </div>

I love going on random walks with my kids. A few days ago, Ben and I had a nice little walk around Park Avenue. And we just "happened" to stop at a chocolate store. : )</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhq5c86UYSVyuHw0lRQjlsSHtGPa12lPzrzO_44etitoZGgFLHKGKjjLh1O0rnkiQSd98Qg7TChtPvMIq_sPdlzNyMPxoyicA3y1qk61e3q8TBw-lKDIRNC3qgQXEjSbhmP2m-k_5crjCkP/s1600/IMG_0433.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhq5c86UYSVyuHw0lRQjlsSHtGPa12lPzrzO_44etitoZGgFLHKGKjjLh1O0rnkiQSd98Qg7TChtPvMIq_sPdlzNyMPxoyicA3y1qk61e3q8TBw-lKDIRNC3qgQXEjSbhmP2m-k_5crjCkP/s400/IMG_0433.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Stever's has some of the cutest chocolates I've ever seen. I took us 30 minutes just to look at everything and then we had to decide which ones we wanted to bring home. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgK7Ip4q9FaKLETa7nxCjVvAz5HDepPoX2AltuQAAov6laeeo8Gm7wrpRpNb8MOx3k6y2DLUb2Hh0mPvhgj4z8i8jvyK0trztXoSPSeURnmp7Js0OO4AKYYrLFSHPJ813IxXOA1JhD5Z0iX/s1600/IMG_0436.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgK7Ip4q9FaKLETa7nxCjVvAz5HDepPoX2AltuQAAov6laeeo8Gm7wrpRpNb8MOx3k6y2DLUb2Hh0mPvhgj4z8i8jvyK0trztXoSPSeURnmp7Js0OO4AKYYrLFSHPJ813IxXOA1JhD5Z0iX/s400/IMG_0436.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
They have some chocolate frogs, too. Kind of like the ones in the Harry Potter books. We munched on some of those when we got home, while reading "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban." </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Here's just some of our loot...it got much smaller before we even got home. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiKn99WOME2NqbpVXLyo3IelkXJrV-u-NG-gXvnPh42SuFJP3FsnIDs_JcyUXWJWn94sVc6WcPM9LUdQclIGK3VX75oDYtS7E7dMxR_RTkFosaAZbDtusvgUodr-n-9tMjMmlq8Ex-PINlf/s1600/IMG_0457.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiKn99WOME2NqbpVXLyo3IelkXJrV-u-NG-gXvnPh42SuFJP3FsnIDs_JcyUXWJWn94sVc6WcPM9LUdQclIGK3VX75oDYtS7E7dMxR_RTkFosaAZbDtusvgUodr-n-9tMjMmlq8Ex-PINlf/s400/IMG_0457.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
